Baby, Oh Baby!

On Thursday, June 21, several FHBers spent the morning at BETA Center as part of the Heart of Florida United Way’s Day of Action. BETA provides children and parents the knowledge and support needed for strong and healthy families, with a focus on teen moms and at-risk families, and offers pregnant and parenting teens everything from an accredited high school education and child care training to emergency supplies and crisis counseling.
After an extensive tour of this unique facility and working on snack bags for moms and a city-wide mailer, it was time for some babies. We so enjoyed cuddling, feeding, playing and giggling with over 15 infants and toddlers whose moms are in the summer school program. Not much can beat holding chubby little hands or playing kickball with a 3 year old for stress relief!
Even though we were only there a few hours, BETA’s mission, staff, volunteers and families deeply touched our hearts. It just goes to show that volunteering really is a two-way street – sometimes it seems we get so much more than we give.
