Bowling for Fun and Profit

Posted In:

Bowling is a sport just about anyone can do. And actually, sometimes it’s more fun when you aren’t very good at it. But at FHB, if there’s one thing we are good at, it’s helping someone who asks for help. That’s why we’re proud to be a part of the Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon, an annual fundraising event to support JA of Central Florida. JA reaches over 80,000 students and uses practical hands-on activities to show students how the business world operates. These kids really are our future, and we’re happy to help them get an early start on learning about the business world.

This year, we’ve split 17 volunteers into four bowling teams, each charged with organizing fundraisers ahead of the Bowl-A-Thon event on June 8. This year’s fundraisers have been unique, innovative and fun – once again hitting it out of the park. So far, we’ve seen a car wash, a bake sale, poker and Wii bowling tournaments, a buffet breakfast with silent auction, and an online auction. We’ve also enlisted Lola Accessorie jewelry and two food trucks to donate a portion of their sales to the cause.

What’s in it for us? Well, first and foremost, we’re helping give back to the community we live in, work in and love. Second, we get to enjoy an evening of bowling with friends – for better or worse (I think our Executive Creative Director actually dislocated his thumb one year). And then there’s the competition… it’s amazing how splitting an incredibly cohesive group of people into teams will bring out everyone’s winning spirit… and we haven’t even hit the lanes yet (see note above re: Creative Director).

Want to help us help JA? We still have two fundraisers in the coming week. On Tuesday, June 5, we’ll have a Food Truck Extravaganza with Louie’s Bistro and Sunset Ice serving up lunch and cool treats in our Orlando office parking lot. So stop by, say hi and have a bite – a portion of their proceeds go to JA. You can also still shop with Lola Accessorie too – just mention the Bowldozers, JA or Junior Achievement in the comments at checkout to have 25% donated to JA.

Our auction site will be live until NOON on Wednesday, June 6. Visit FHBAuction.com and check out what we have to offer – you can bid on items ranging from homemade dog biscuits and chair massages to beach weekends, Rays tickets and luxury spa treatments.

And if you’re looking for a laugh, this all leads to the culminating moment on Friday, June 8, when the teams partake in the bowling tournament.
